My approach to assessment is similar to the way I approach therapy - I focus on identifying strengths and exploring how to make the most of them. Highlighting and understanding an individual's strengths can provide valuable insights into their abilities, resources, and potential. This allows for a more holistic understanding of the person being assessed, rather than solely focusing on deficits or weaknesses.

I began conducting neuropsychological and psycho-educational evaluations with children, adolescents, and young adults over twenty years ago. My experience working with students in New York City independent schools and supporting the learning needs of college students has allowed me to gain insight into how one might take the results of an assessment and transfer its findings to enhance an individual's educational and social-emotional experience.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and also a nationally certified school psychologist.

  • A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that assesses multiple domains. This comprehensive approach ensures a thorough understanding of one's cognitive and emotional profile.

    Areas assessed may include:

    Cognitive (intellectual) ability

    Academic skills

    Memory (visual and auditory)

    Attention

    Language processing

    Visual-Spatial processing

    Executive functioning

    Emotional and behavioral functioning

    Social Skills

    1. The process begins with a brief phone call to learn more about you or your child’s situation to verify that a neuropsychological assessment might be useful.

    2. An intake meeting is scheduled in order to learn more about the developmental and educational history of the person being tested.

    3. Testing takes 6-10 hours to complete, over 2-3 days (depending on the age and concern of the person being tested).

    4. A few weeks after the testing is complete, a feedback session will take place to discuss the findings of the testing. Shortly after the feedback session, you will receive a comprehensive report that summarizes the results of the assessment and also provides recommendations that will allow the individual to achieve greater success as a learner while maintaining or improving social and emotional health.

    5. I enjoy collaborating with schools, tutors, and doctors, to discuss the results of the testing.

  • I provide a statement that can be submitted to your insurance company as an out-of-network benefit. If you are interested in insurance reimbursement, I recommend that you call your insurance company to learn about benefits and also to learn if pre-authorization is required.

  • I balance my experience and expertise with warmth and a sense of humor. My goal is for the testing experience to feel enjoyable and empowering.

My professional experience is unique in that I have spent many years working in schools supporting the social-emotional and educational needs of students. I have also taught at the college level and worked in a college office of disability services where I worked with college students to determine if they had the right to receive accommodations (such as extended time on testing or access to a set of notes for the course). Additionally, I have worked with adolescents and adults where I provided therapy in a private practice setting.
